ABOUT US
On 3rd May 2002, the University Teacher Education Centre, Nattika was inaugurated by the Honorable Vice Chancellor of University Of Calicut, Prof. Dr.K.K.N.Kurup in the Public function presided by the M.L.A of Nattika Constituency Sri.T.N.Prathapan. At first the Centre was started functioning in the buildings of Govt. Fisheries Higher Secondary School, Nattika in Thrissur District with an intake of 60 students admitted purely on merit based as per university norms. Subsequently the NCTE in 2004, granted recognition with an intake of 60 students in 3 optional subjects ( Social Science, Commerce and Mathematics) as per vide order No.FKL/SEC/UNI/N/07/SRO/NCTE/2004 – 2005/4857 dated 13/07/2004.
The Centre is fully equipped with all facilities to impart quality teacher education for excellence of services to Secondary and Higher Secondary School Teachers in the Country. The Institution is located in a unique place gifted with serene atmosphere and landscape, 2 K.M west of Thriprayar on N.H.17. The Institution is situated in an educationally backward coastal area of Thrissur District. Population of this area included fisherman and other backward people.
CUTEC Nattika is situated in the premises of Government Fisheries High School, Nattika owned by Dept. Of Education, Kerala State. The land is registered under the Survey Number 103/14 in Chavakkad Taluk, Thrissur District. The Govt. Fisheries High School Authorities unconditionally permitted to function Calicut University Teacher Education Centre, Nattika as it exists. The Play Ground facility of the school also allowed using for the centre. The school authority and PTA has no objection or disagreement. As per the Panchayat Raj Act, the custodian of Govt. School is District Panchayath. We have approached the District Panchayath authorities to get the land on lease. The District Panchayath authorities given consent to this and the paper follow up work is in progress.
Very soon a separate permanent building for CUTEC, Nattika was constructed. The ground floor is built by utilizing the local fund of Member of Legislative Assembly, Kerala, Sri.T.N.Prathapan, 2005 and the first floor of the building constructed by utilizing the fund of Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Sri.P.R.Rajan, in 2007. The built up space is 5400 sq.ft. This Institution was built up with the local support and interest of M.L.A, M.P and other elected representatives, Local Authorities and Public as a whole. The existing building is exclusively for running the B.Ed course. There are 3 separate class rooms (Halls), a Multipurpose Hall, well equipped Audio Visual Lab, Psychology Lab, Educational Technology Lab, Play Materials, sufficient Computers and also appropriate space for Office functioning.
This Institution has well equipped Library with above 3980 books, 350 Reference Books, 5 Journals and 16 Encyclopedias. The seating capacity in this library is 30. When NCTE inserting 2 year Bed program, Nattika Centre started to offer 2 Years BEd Course in 5 Optional Subjects, viz, Commerce, English, Mathematics, Natural Science and Social Science with a total Intake of 50 students. The seat allotment in each subject is 10.
University appointed 7 Asst Professors (5 optional Subject Professors and 2 General Subject Professors) and A Principal is serving in this Institution. There is a part time faculty in Physical Education. The University has appointed Full time Librarian and Office assistant. A panel of CLR is on rotation basis on daily wage. Annual audit has taken place by the University Authorities and Local Fund Auditing regularly. The Institution is a boon to meritorious and talented students who belong to different categories of the society
