University of Calicut is forerunner in establishing Teacher Education Courses in self-finance mode. The history of the teacher education centres trace back to 39 years. In 1980's Malabar area was considered as the educationally backward area. In order to accelerate the social and cultural change we required teachers to impart education to rural areas.The Universiiy started the B.Ed programme on sessional basis from the year 1982 by establishing two centres one at Calicut, Tali and another at Kannut Chovva. Step by step University siarted more centres in flve districts under the jurisdiction of our University due to growing demands of the people and local authorities. Now it is a full time programme on regular basis at its 11 Centres with optional subjects in Mathematics, Physical Science, Natural Science, Social Science. Commerce. Arabic. English. Urdu, Tamil Malayalam and Sanskrit.
